Mt. Lemon Beefathon

September 29, 2006

After a long drive through New Mexico and part of Arizona, the scenery changing from dry green to crazy cactus, we arrived to Tucson, to The Living Room, a small all-ages venue on 4th avenue. Tucson is a hippie-gypsie town. Cool coffee shops, huge amp/guitar warehouses and cool venues. The streets resemble a mexican town crossed with an american town. The show was sort of crappy for us, but we met some cool people and stayed the night at Eric from Dialectic’s beautiful home in the hills.

We spent the following day in guitar shops, and supermarkets. then we head up to Mt. Lemon, a huge national park outside of Tucson, for BBQ and R&R. Later that night we went to an open mic night at a local Tucson cafe called Epic, and Avishy played an acoustic set infront of some very uninterested nightcrawlers, and… us! the set was very cool though. But Tucson didnt realy GET us.

Were in Phoenix right now at a coffee shop , waiting for our show tonight at The Paper Heart. tommorow we’re heading for California. Finally well get to see the ocean!

The Fra House show was our best yet. An amazing crowd standing not a foot away from us, rocking hard with us. Next day was Fort-Worth, we spent the entire day before that show with our friends from the House, watching Jackass 2 and eating burgers.

after the show in Fort Worth, which was fun despite the weak draw, we said goodbye to our friends at the Fra House, and headed for Lubbock. The six hour drive turned out to be a 4.5 hour drive, and we got to the Sidewalk Underground venue pretty early. The show went very well, we set all our pedals and cables on the floor, pushed the drumkit forward and played the set facing each other with the crowd around us. The Sidewalk has a homey feeling to it, paintings on the walls, plenty of couches, friendly people and a supportive enviroment. Lubbock is a small town that has a nice scene going, but nothing quite as crystalized as Austin. This makes the Sidewalk a great contribution to the unity of people here in Lubbock. After everyone left and the night was over, 2 guys played a human-beat-box show with mics and effects. It was probably the highlight of the night for all of us.

We’re gonna be crossing New Mexico today for Tucson, Arizona. Copper state, here we come.

Kickapoo!

Super happy fun land in Houston was an unbeleivabely beautiful venue, with piles of free cloths on the floor, sweet one dollar tall can Lone Star beers for bands, wall paintings resembling Aboriginal art, and friendly folks who run the joint.

Next day was Dallas. This city is huge. We ate some big fucking steaks on the way there somewhere around Waco. Dallas looks like a cross between New York and a country western restored disney-style city. The downtown area was a bit hairy though. One of the guys from the other band had his car window smashed in and one of the bands even started a fight with the Double Wide’s bartender, a man not to be fucked with. The show there was crazy, we were all on the floor after it was over exhausted.

Right now we’re at the Fra House. A very cool house in Denton, a smaller version of Austin, with its own University Of North Texas, promising a good crowd of drunk frat kids. Tommorow we’re heading out to Fort-Worth for our last show in north Texas, then to Lubbock, an extremely Texan town, as i was told.

Cisco Migas

We landed in a ball of fire in Houstin Bush Int. and spent our first night at a Motel Super 6. There was Futurama on TV. We felt right at home. In the morning we headed out in our van to Austin for our first show, and met up with the amazingly cool people of Australian Cattle God Records. Lee and Brian, and Brian’s girlfriend Andrea, who took us in and let us stay at their house and rehears in an extra room in the backyard.

Last night was our first show down at Beerland Austin,TX. We shared the bill with Something Fierce, The Snake Trap and Lozen and had a great time meeting them all. We found out the hard way that its impossible to drink outside of a bar on the street, and smoke inside the bar. There is no way of combining smoking and drinking when going out.

We spent last night at Lee’s house in south Austin, on a long american street with big trees and american flags. Notably, yesterday we spent the day before the show, swimming at Barton Springs with all the other college kids, and eating Migas at a mexiacan breakfast joint called Cisco.
