Bdass!

October 19, 2006

We’re done with the album, done recording, done mixing, and done with our first U.S tour, and boy was it the best time we ever had ! Well be back in Texas again in March, but untill then, we have so much to reflect apon and think about from our experience here. Right now we’re at a cafe in Bellingham, WA , where we recorded our second album (MARS studio is where FedX recorded their last album). The last 4 shows were pretty sweet, specially a basement show in Portland, and the Seattle show at Lobo, which was completely packed (not for us though, but who cares).

We’re heading home the day after tommorow. We’ll miss everyone we met here, but we miss our friends in Israel the most. See you soon, we got a show brewing at the Left Bank on November 11th with Yonatan “Monotonix” Gat, and Eli “Dogs” Lass.

Snake Juice!

After the show in Oakland, we headed up to Sacramento for two shows. One at a cool little gallery place called Fools Foundation, this show was with COZY, an awesome band that rocks really hard, and an experimental band called Pregnant. The second show in Sacto was at The Library, which was a large venue painted up as a library, with full bar and sound system. The stage was kinda high, but we played a really good show there and saw our friends from O! The Joy for one last time. After Sacto we drove up to Redding, which was a completely different world. A small pub in a small town surrounded by hills and forests. In the distance we could make out huge mountains, snow at their top. Redding was really cool, we felt right at home at that pub. They had a huge selection of local beers, we tried all of them and later, went to a diner and pigged out. Ed and Laurie from The Hummingbirds (a band we were supposed to play with in Redding) took us into their home, and we slept in the living room with 3 pug dogs and a cat. Ed used to do sound for Devo!

We headed out from Redding to Eureka, a nice long drive through forests and mountains. In Eureka we played The Placebo, there werent that many people there but we still had alot of fun playing on 3 bass amps!

The drive from Eureka to Eugene took us through Redwood National Park, where the trees are the size of buildings and little to no light comes through the tree tops. You could get lost in that area for days and days. The road was narrow and the drive was a little scary at first. We got a hang of it and drove all the way to Eugene to sleep , before the show at Towne Lounge in Portland. We played that shows with Mustaphamond, an amazing local band that also took us into their house, fed us, and showed us around the wonderful world of gear shopping. We passes a shop where Unwound’s drummer works, but she wasnt working that day.

Last night was the show at the Samurai Duck in Eugene. We made some flyers the day before and handed them out to good looking girls. That show was cool, the stage had murals of samurais all over it, and we had a sip or two of this weird Japanese drink, that is a sort of Rice wine that is poured over a dead snake. Avishy was later seen yelling in the street , playing on and eventualy breaking his guitar, in a very colorful exhibition of drunkness.

Tonight we are heading out to Olympia. we’ve only got 4 shows left, and some recording to do, and we’ll be heading back to Israel to mix and master it.

The Attic in Santa Cruz is probably the most impressive performance space i had ever seen in my life.  A large wooden hall with an equaly huge bar and stage. When people showed up to see the shows it was even more impressive. That show went great, with the amazing O! The Joy side project jamming hard, Tartufi’s looping insanity and Giraffes? Giraffes! tapping picking and hitting. Joe from Girraffes, took us to his home in Santa Cruz after the show. Probably one of the nicest guys youd ever meet. The next day after some breakfast borritos, we headed out for San Francisco on a winding road called 280 in the woods. I baught a new acoustic guitar, at an awesome guitar workshop and Avinoam finally succumbed to the technological wonders of a tuner.

We arrived in San Fran at night, and parked right infront of the Hemlock tavern, dragged our gear in and did what we do. This show also went great, and we had so much fun playing with 2 amazing bands such as Moggs and The Drift. A truely unforgetable experience for us. The Hemlock Tavern is one of the coolest places in San Fran, the atmosphere in the back room was just as special as the acoustics, and without any of our gear miced, everything spilled out fluently.

Avishy’s friends from the time he worked in California braught us back to their home, fed us burgers and gave us a place to sleep. Tonight is the Oakland show , with Lazlow , Giraffes? Giraffes! and The Druids, of which i have not heard of before.  We’re hoping for a cool night.

As we go north the weather gets colder and colder. soon it will start raining, there is already a smell of it in the air.

Ends of the earth

The show in phoenix was with some excellent bands, we especially enjoyed Bodhi Tree who were last after us, and Swimwalkers, a two peice band comprised of guitar and drums. Rockey, the guitar player for Swimwalkers took us into his home after the show, where we all went into a small phsycadelic room and recorded ourselves making random noise on random instruments. A truley spiritual experience.

We got to L.A after a very long drive, cranky but glad. Our friends Minette and Adria, who live in Oceanside, a town an hour away from L.A to the south, took us in for both days of our L.A shows. The show at Live Jazz was great and we even got to see some old friends from Israel who came out. The second show at The Smell was a little vacant on the crowd side, but we did get to use our new amp heads for the first time. In Oceanside we also got the first chance to dip our legs in the ends of the earth, and watch a sunset.

We’re leaving Oceanside now for Santa Cruz, another long drive. The show tonight is at the Attic. Is it a real Attic?
